Monday Update: AFROPUNK FEST and witches

This weekend I went to AFROPUNK FEST in New York. It was amazing. I got to see Janelle Monáe in person and closer than/more clearly than the time I saw her through the fences at Boston Calling. Janelle Monáe is my jam. Towards the end of her set, Monáe explained lyrics to her song Yoga.

This is going to be a rough paraphrase since I didn’t have enough room to drink water or itch my neck without bumping someone, let alone take notes. Sometimes I’m PG and sometimes I’m vulgar means that just like you I have many sides. Stretching out my cash, got my money doing yoga means that I’m stretching out my money to help give other artists like Jidenna, Roman, St. Beauty, and Deep Cotton chance through Wondaland. Lastly you cannot police me, so get off my areola which means that when others try to tell you how to act, do you.

This right here, is me doing me. Maybe slower than I would like, but this is still how I want to contribute to humanity. I want to help writers hone their stories into the best possible, hits you right in the feels and makes you think about it for days or weeks or months or years or (hopefully) the rest of your life. I also want to create a space where everyone can contribute stories, especially of a sci-fi and fantasy nature because that’s also my jam.

So as mentioned last week I’ve got a rough timeline that I’ve tweaked a bit in the last week, but it still needs way more filling out. According to our world, the followers of Balance are witches and the witches keep the records so the encyclopedia is written by witches. There will probably be sections where others sects add their own opinions, but by and large this encyclopedia is going to be written from the perspective of witches. I’m currently having trouble with writing encyclopedia entries for our fictitious world, so I’m working on family trees that I can hang around my office to help get my mind off the task ahead of me. If they come out well, I’ll post some pictures of them next week.
