Monday Update: Too Many Cooks?
Last post I mentioned that my Harry Potter plans hit a snag with the various options available to me. This week I started typing up Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Chapter 1. I made it to page 4 before I decided to take a break and do some interweb digging. In about twenty minutes I came across a few different writing resources that use Harry Potter and its author JK Rowling, as resources to make you a better writer.
This is a relief (if others are using Harry Potter to teach internet denizens how to tell a better story, I don’t need) and a bummer (because using Harry Potter to teach storytelling would be a nice way to ease into building an entire universe). I still want to run the Harry Potter series through a battery of tests and edit the shit out of the later books, however because this series is so well covered, I’m going to move on to building the Sandbox. You know, nothing too scary.
This weekend I spent my time finishing my West African culture research on Wikipedia. So expect some fun universe pieces next week.
While I’m sure that this is also something that has been done somewhere else by someone else, those someones aren’t me (or at least are probably not me, but who knows with time travel and cloning and multiverses what is and isn’t possible?).
